On September 12 the Greater Toronto Workers’ Assembly hosted a forum about the coming fight over “right to work” laws in Ontario and the rest of Canada. The panel addressed how the labour movement and the left should strategically fight these laws and grow the power of working and marginalized people.
The panel was moderated by Tracy Macmaster the President of the OPSEU Greater Toronto Area Council. The speakers in order of appearance: John Cartwright the President of Toronto and York Region Labour Council, Sonia Singh from the Workers’ Action Centre, and Sam Gindin a retired research director with the CAW. Sam Gindin also authored a piece earlier this year about “right to work” and union renewal – “Ending Dues Check-Off: Forcing Union Renewal?”
